Hidden away in West London is a little treasure that many might miss - The Japanese Garden of Peace. This charming gemis a perfect getaway from the busy city life, inviting you to soak in its beauty and tranquil atmosphere.
The garden features traditional Japanese elements, including with stone lanterns, bamboo, and little wooden bridges. It's super peaceful, making it a great spot for portrait photography. Take a look at these pics I snapped that really capture the garden's essence and relaxed atmosphere.

Back in April 2026, I got the chance to join a super fun shoot put together by the awesome and creative Dani Velvet. A bunch of photographers teamed up with models to snap some incredible photos around the captivating theme of Japan.
The models were absolutely spectacular in front of the lens! Their choice of vivid, colourful clothing added an extra layer of magic to the photographs. As you can see, I experimented with the surroundings by using leading lines, defocused foregrounds, and other elements to enhance the narrative.

I was taken by Kitty's amazing green outfit. To make her pop, I searched for some bright yellow flowers scattered around the park. Their bold colours would perfectly contrast with the rich green of her clothes.

I also came across bunches of red leaves, adding a warm touch to the scene's richness. Like above, the colour constrasted nicely with Kitty's clothing.

In addition to the bamboo, the park featured charming wooden gateways that beckoned exploration.

Another model who is a hoot to work with is Claudia. An interesting aspect of working with her is that she doesn’t just show up and pose; she comes equipped with a plethora of creative ideas that enhance the overall vision of the project.

For instance, during our recent session, Claudia went all out with her choice of clothing, fully embracing the theme of the shoot. Plus, the accessories really added depth.

Jess

Jess's hair and clothes had these cool red tones that were just asking for some creative editing in post-production to really make them stand out. I threw in a petal overlay to top it all off.

To snap this shot, I stuck a twig in the ninja star and held it in front of my lens. I got the model to pose like he was throwing it. Later, I edited out the twig, and voilà... here's what I ended up with!

As the photographer, I recognise that the style of these portraits may not accurately represent Japanese culture or its history. If this is the case, I welcome your insights, as I am eager to learn. Our collective goal was to enjoy the day while maintaining respect for the country.
