Beach painting with a lone figure under an umbrella, facing the sea. Rocks in the distance. Text: Paintings Gallery, www.martyn-hayes.co.uk.

While snapping photos is definitely my numero uno passion, it's not the only way I express myself as an artist. Besides capturing moments with my trusty camera, I've also enjoy putting paint on canvas.

Painting for me isn't just a hobby. It can feel like a therapitic escape. Think of it as a "chill pill" in a brush. It’s a nice change of pace from the whirlwind adventure that is photography, where everything moves faster than a caffeinated squirrel.

Comic book style

You've probably noticed that my art has a cartoon comic book vibe, with bold lines and bright colours. One thing I like to do is paint the edges of my subjects black. This not only frames the images but also makes them pop.

This choice gives my work a fun and whimsical feel that both kids and adults love. My style naturally has a childlike quality, which some might see as a downside, but I think it's a unique strength that makes my work stand out.

This way, I can capture a sense of innocence and wonder, inviting people to reconnect with their inner child and feel the joy of imagination.
