Focus your marketing / communications with this reference tool

Unlocking the secrets to your customers' hearts is the ultimate key to supercharging your marketing and communications efforts! Delving into their desires and pain points is a tried-and-true strategy for achieving outstanding outcomes.

While you could take a wild guess and cross your fingers, relying on assumptions about your customers' needs is like shooting in the dark.

You're better off compartmentalising your consumers in a way that defines who they are - Notably the problems they have and the solutions you can offer. For example, the challenges of a teenage suburban girl would be different to that of a wealthy business CEO. Therefore, your tone and messaging will need to resonate with whomever you are targeting.

So, what is an audience persona?

Also known as a buyer persona, it is a fictional character profile made to represent your clientele. It is a snapshot that gives an overview of buyers' demographical info and what makes them tick.

As a visual reference tool, it helps to focus your marcoms so that you create content with your purchasers in mind. The idea is to hone in on one specific person as your ideal client. As you can see from the above example, their demographics, behaviours, goals, interests, and obstacles are included.

The benefits are that it assists you in creating more targeted and focused promotional materials. It further helps colleagues to brainstorm whether new products and services would resonate with this character.

How many should I make?

There is no magic number. But to start with, don't overstretch yourself, and do no more than three.

To kick-start your journey, dive into the world of focus groups with your existing or ideal customers! Ask them questions to uncover insights about their behaviors, needs, and challenges.
