Create your own swirling circus vortex this Halloween

Zombies and clowns are a perfect match. You've probably seen a zombie horde invading a circus or amusement park in movies or video games. The best part? You can set up a scene like this right at home..

If you're into toy photography, you don't need a big circus tent or a fairground setup. Just grab a simple garden windmill. With a little creativity and a semi-slow shutter speed, you can make your own swirling vortex to go perfectly with any zombie clown figure.

Check out the video above to see how you can create a super spooky photo just in time for Halloween.

How to create the swirling vortex

To get this effect, just set your camera on a tripod. You'll want to use a neutral density filter so you can shoot at a slower shutter speed. Try going for about 1/15th of a second.

Position your subject in front of a garden windmill, give it a spin, and voilà, you should end up with a photo like the one below.

How the photo turned out

Here is the spooky result.

Toy photography Skeleton clown with pink hair and colourful striped outfit grins in front of a blurred teal background, creating a spooky, playful vibe.
